Whether you are a beginner or a master gardener, whether you live in town or in the country, whether you prefer flower or vegetable gardening, whether you have an acre or just a patio, you will find kindred spirits in the garden club. Some women like flowers and enjoy flower arranging but have no interest in, or knowledge of, growing them. Some garden with nothing but houseplants. Whatever your preference, you will enjoy the fellowship with others interested in plants, nature and the environment.

We’d love to have you as an Active Member. Members are asked to attend a minimum of three meetings a year and to participate in our all-club project of Uptown Beautification, our Plant Sale in May and our Christmas Wreath Sale in late November. We encourage and welcome your participation at whatever level is comfortable. Our dues are only $25, payable annually by April 30.

We cordially invite prospective members to attend a meeting to find out how friendly and fun we are. If you are feeling a bit shy, call Arlene, Linda, Daryl or Sandi (numbers below) ahead of time to chat a bit so you will already have a friend waiting for you when you arrive.

Our regular meetings are at the Dressler Center at Laurel Arts on the corner of Harrison and Tayman at 11:00 the second Monday of the month. We have no meeting in May because of our plant sale the Saturday before Mother’s Day, and in June this year we’ll meet on the third Monday. In July we have a joint picnic with the Johnstown Club at the Trinity Lutheran Church pavilion on Tayman Avenue, and in August we’ll enjoy our annual club picnic, this year at Linda Musser’s place on Indian Lake. In October, December and February we hold our meeting at a restaurant and enjoy a special lunch and program.

Under Arlene’s presidency through April 2015 meetings include an health tip, a book review and a business meeting. Since we love to eat, every meeting is a luncheon meeting, after which we have a short program. When we dig in the dirt at the Peace Garden at Flight 93 Chapel or plant uptown, we go to lunch afterward. Work always includes fun and food!

What Members Say:

Judy Rach: "If I had known about volunteering and garden clubs when I was 24, my life would have been so very different … I missed out on a lot way back then. So glad I have the club now!”

Linda Diehl DeLia: “My grandmother, mother and aunts loved garden club and were very active, including holding office, when I was growing up. When I retired back to the county, I decided to join at the invitation of a cousin. Now I get it: flowers, food, fun and friendship.”

We have members of all ages, including two sets of mothers and daughters. Several have been members for 25 years, or nearly, and some just joined this year. Some members hold state or national office; several members are certified judges for flower shows. The opportunities are endless, but there is no pressure to participate beyond the level you prefer.
